The concept of Srishti in Mahabharata


ಲೋಕೋಽಯಂ ಕೇನ ನಿರ್ಮಿತಃ? ಕಥಂ ಸೃಷ್ಟಾನಿ ಭೂತಾನಿ? This world is created by whom? How are the beings created? These questions were asked of Bhrigu by Bharadvaja.

Bhrigu responded: In the past, the Maharshis have heard of a Deva who is immortal, has no old age, who is undivided, who has no beginning and end, and who is known as Manasa. He is also known as Avyakta. Shashvata. Akshara and Avyaya. The Bhutas that he creates repeatedly come to being and cease to be.

He first created Akash, also known as Mahat. From Akash, Jala came; from Jala came Agni and Vayu. From the combination of Agni and Vayu, Bhumi was born.

Then he created a divine Padma, from which Brahma, who had Veda as his wealth, was born. This Brahma is also known as Ahankara and consists of the Pancha Mahabhutas.
