Srikanteshwara (Nanjundeswara) Temple is dedicated to Neelkanth Mahadev as the name suggests it is named after Mahadev accepted to keep the Vish that came out of the Samudra Manthan when no one else could bear it. Temple is located on the banks of the river Kapila. River Kapila (Nanjungud, Karnataka) is a tributary of the Kaveri river.
